Clarity PPM: Classic and Modern UX
The nature of work today is changing. Users are expecting applications to be more social, more team-focused, and more user-friendly. To address these market dynamics, the Clarity PPM team began a journey to build a modern user experience (UX) with enhanced capabilities for all users, from top-level enterprise portfolio managers, to mid-level project management professionals, and smart agile teams of all sizes. CA Technologies (now a Broadcom Company since our acquisition in 2018) released the first version of our Modern UX in CA PPM 15.1. Since then, the product has restored its Clarity PPM brand name. In each subsequent release, we have added robust new capabilities such as roadmaps, task boards, to-do item dashboards, conversations, blueprints, dynamic grids, status reports, and more.
One of the key technologies we leverage in developing the Modern UX, is the Google Angular application framework. Angular provides capabilities to render the modern graphical interfaces that empower our newest Clarity PPM releases. Angular continues to introduce new components or offer other advantages that require browsers with modern graphical rendering engines, such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari.
Are Users Able to Access Clarity PPM On Mobile Devices?
Officially, Clarity PPM has not introduced support for exclusive use on mobile devices. Administrators can decide if they want to encourage their Clarity PPM users to attempt to access the application on a mobile device. Clarity PPM does not officially support the use of mobile operating systems with either Classic PPM or Modern UX functionality; however, we are aware some customers are using portions of the product with varying and sometimes limited results. Although mobile devices are not supported, here is what your users might expect from attempting to use them:
- We specifically set a minimum page width resolution of 1024 pixels for eventual support for tablet users. We do not allow resolutions below that standard. As long as your mobile device, like most tablets, supports this display size, then you could attempt trial use and self-assess your results.
- Drag-and-drop, touch-and-move, swiping, stretching, and other touch gestures and events generally do not work.
- Some user interface elements implement hover effects, specifically over column headers, icons, or buttons. These effects cannot be supported at this time in our Modern UX offerings if using mobile devices; however, they look great and perform well on traditional desktop computers with large displays and on laptops when not in tablet or touch-screen mode.

Customer Success Story: Catholic Health
Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) Enhances Project Management and Visibility With CA Solutions.
CHI operates 87 hospitals, two community health organizations, two nursing colleges, home health agencies, and long-term care, assisted living and residential facilities in 17 states.
CHI needed to enhance project management and improve enterprise visibility. Because CHI project managers use Microsoft Project, that software had to be integrated with CA PPM, which CHI already used for time tracking. CA Services consulted with CHI to evaluate technical and adoption issues, make recommendations and identify best practices.
The solution entailed a variety of custom training, including CA Productivity Accelerator. In addition to time tracking, CHI now uses CA PPM for resource management, portfolio management, cost tracking, and project and portfolio visibility, increasing efficiency and cost controls to the extent that CHI has expanded its use beyond IT.
