New User Experience: Create and Edit Custom Investments

ccppmop157
Develop new products, services, and other custom investments to bring new business to your portfolio, determine the feasibility of starting a new project, or make operational improvements. After your administrator defines one or more custom investment types in Clarity Studio using the Classic PPM interface, you can create investments in the
New User Experience
Prerequisites
Ensure that your administrator has provided you with the following access rights:
  • <custom_investment_type>
     - Edit All
  • <custom_investment_type> - Create
  • <custom_investment_type> - Navigate
  • <custom_investment_type> - Task Management - All
  • <custom_investment_type> - View All
  • <custom_investment_type> - XOG Access
Open a Custom Investment
As a business user, contact your administrator for the appropriate access rights to perform the steps described in this article. Your access rights determine whether you see the Investments page, and if so, which investment types you can open, view, create, and edit. The following image shows the Investments page with four (4) custom investment types:

Create a New Investment
You can create an instance of a custom investment type.
  1. In the main menu, click
    Investments
    .
  2. Click a type of custom investment. For example,
    Business Case
     or
    Funding Request
    .
  3. Click
    New
    .
  4. Enter a name. If auto-numbering is off, enter a unique investment ID.
  5. Complete the other fields your organization wants to use.
  • Valid entries show a white background. A light yellow or canary color indicates that a row is missing values for one or more required fields (columns). An asterisk (*) in the column name indicates a required field.
  • You cannot edit read-only fields.
  • Your current saved view might not include one or more required fields. When you create an investment type, the application shows the required fields that do not have default values (so you can enter a required value), and your view switches to
    unsaved
    .
  • To create new cards on the board, an administrator must go into Classic PPM Studio and set the ID field for your custom investment object to use auto-numbering. If auto-numbering is not enabled, the system returns an error message indicating the new record cannot be created.
  • To create new investments on the grid, auto-numbering must be disabled.

Custom Investments in the New User Experience supports the entry of one or more helpful links to external sites that might help the investment owner and other stakeholders get access to relevant information. For example, you may include a link to a financial index or an intranet site that lists the organization chart for investment stakeholders. You can create links when you have “Edit All” access for the associated custom investment.

The following examples demonstrate picklist attributes, choices, and conditional color settings as seen on the board and grid layouts for custom investments.
Example 1
: This board layout divides investment cards into columns by
Work Stage
 with values such as
None
Demand Capture
, and
Business Case
. The color of each card is determined by your choice of colors mapped to your own picklist values. In this example, the user wants to view investments shaded by a custom picklist titled
Industry
. Investments for the travel industry appear with purple shading and healthcare investments are blue. The legend at the bottom shows the fields on the card face and the conditional color values for each industry. In this example, no card metrics are used.

Example 2
: This grid shows conditional colors in the investment grid. The grid uses traditional display mappings to represent alignment scores in red or green. The cells in the Industry column get their color shading from your custom picklist settings.

Example 3
