Always use the
latest installer
to install OPMS. Else the installation may fail during a sanity check or during the registration phase.

Verify the Pre-requisites
Ensure that your system has the pre-requisite third-party software and set-up before installing an On-Premise monitoring station. Full details are in the Pre-Installation Checklist.
Install an On-Premise Monitoring Station
The installer installs and configures the OPMS and tunnel client software. Installers support both graphical and console mode. If you log in from a text terminal, console mode is used by default. To force it from the graphical environment, use the
-i console
option. Installation can be automated so that it can be completed without any need for user interaction.
Follow these steps:
  1. Download the OPMS installation file from the ASM Dashboard product download page. Select the file name to start the download.
  2. Run the installer as the root user:
    su - chmod +x asm-opms-<version>.bin ./asm-opms-<version>.bin
  3. Accept the CA Technologies licensing agreement to continue and fill in the installer fields as follows:
    • Authentication
Enter the email address and password of the subscription (master) account. The API login e-mail is the same as your portal login e-mail, however, the password can be different. The installer needs the account details to authenticate with
      api.asm.saas.broadcom.com
. The account used for OPMS installation needs to hold a subscription. The installer uses our old API that does not honor the new system of permissions which is only implemented fully in the web UI.
    • Parameters for the Monitoring Station
      Select
      Create Group
, or select an existing group for this OPMS. Specify the fields City, Country, Area, and Description. This identifying information is used for OPMS selection and failover decisions.
    • Tunnel Client
Install a local tunnel client in addition to the OPMS, or use an existing tunnel client by selecting its hostname.
If you do not set up a local DNS in your environment, add the hostname and IP address to the
      /etc/hostname
file of the tunnel client host.
    • Monitoring alerts
(Optional) Specify an email address for receiving alerts. OPMS components are controlled by the
      monit
tool. You can configure this tool to send diagnostic information when problems are detected.
Set Up Monitors
After you install tunnel clients and OPMS, you can create and update monitors. A monitor uses OPMS, or monitoring stations from the public group. Optimally, a monitor uses one or more tunnels.
Follow these steps:
  1. In ASM, select
    Monitoring,
    then select
    Monitors
    .
The list of all monitors appears.
  2. Select
    New Monitor
and select a type of monitor, for example, HTTPS monitor.
  3. Define the properties of your monitor. Minimally, define a monitor name and the URL to monitor. By default, the monitor uses public checkpoints.
  4. Select
    More Options
    , scroll down, and select
    Checkpoint Selection
    .
A list of all checkpoint groups and checkpoints appears.
  5. Select the checkpoints that you want the monitor to verify:
    1. Select the private group that you assigned when you installed your OPMSs.
    2. Select the OPMSs that you want to use for the monitor.
  6. Select
    Save
    .
