log_forwarder (Log Forwarder)

The log_forwarder probe scans the ASCII-based systems and application log files and publishes the log file content to a specific UIM queue (Default Subject: LOG_ANALYTICS_LOGS). You must deploy the probe on all the servers from which to collect the log data. The collected log data is forwarded to the hub for the axa_log_gateway probe to read. The AXA Log Gateway (axa_log_gateway) probe then transfers the log data from the UIM queue to CA App Experience Analytics to support Log Analytics.

You can configure this probe using the Admin Console or the MCS Templates (recommended). Configuration through IM GUI is not supported.
This probe is delivered with a default configuration and a set of default MCS profiles to read different types of log data. The probe monitors and sends the following data:
  • Line-oriented (Unix system) and record-oriented (Database) log files
The files are monitored at defined time intervals for new entries. The probe tracks the last read position within the file between each run. The log file can be truncated between monitoring intervals. In such cases, only one message is sent for each log entry.
  • Text output after executing specified commands. Files from the remote shared folders.
