How the Data Service Probe Works
The Data Service Probe (zdataservice) is a mechanism that lets you retrieve data from various data sources to UIM so that you can monitor z/OS and z/VM systems.
The zdataservice probe can be installed on the same robot where the other probes (zops, zstorage, zvm, or znetwork) are installed or on a different robot.
The z/OS Common Information Model (CIM) server is the data source for the CA Unified Infrastructure Management Storage for z Systems Probe (zstorage) and the CA Unified Infrastructure Management Operations for z Systems Probe (zops). The aforementioned probes monitor the z/OS systems.
  • The Data Collector for z/VM is the data source for the CA Unified Infrastructure Management for z/VM Systems Probe (zvm), which monitors the z/VM systems.
  • The Data Collector for z/OS is the data source for the CA Unified Infrastructure Management for znetwork Monitoring Probe (znetwork) which monitors z/OS networks.
  • The Data Service Probe retrieves data from the CIM server, the Data Collector for z/VM, or the Data Collector for z/OS and serves the data to the corresponding probes.

As a UIM administrator, you can install and configure the Data Service Probe as a remote probe.
In addition to the Data Service Probe, you configure the CIM servers, the data collector for z/VM, and the data collector for z/OS, depending on the systems that you want to monitor.
