How the znetwork Probe Collects Metrics
znetwork metrics are calculated using the following approach:
The Data Collector polls at regular intervals to fetch the metric values cumulatively. Using the two cumulative data values, the point-in-time values are calculated.
(T2 -  T1)/(number of seconds between T1 and T2).
 
Example:
 
If the Data Collector polls the “Bytesin” metric for OSA device OSA001 using netstat command at T1 and the value is 16370188266 and T2 “Bytesin“ metric for OSA001 is 1637068160. 
The time interval between T1 and T2 is 60 seconds.
Therefore the point in time value of Bytes in OSA001 is calculated as: (16370685160 – 16370188266)/60 sec = 8281.56 bytes/sec
 
Note
  • This polling interval is set in the file named 
    daas-znetwork-connector-config.yml
     in minutes
  • znetwork Data Collector service polls at regular intervals, execute commands, processes the metrics data, and caches the value
  • znetwork Probe gets the metrics data from this cache
  • The cache refresh interval is 5 minutes
