Create a Policy

After you complete the global SNMPv3 settings, apply them to  policies.

After you complete the global SNMPv3 settings, apply them to 
Server Automation
policies.
Follow these steps:
  1. Navigate to
    Resources
    ,
    Configuration
    .
  2. On the Policy page, expand
    Policy
    ,
    Policies
    ,
    SystemEDGE
    in the navigation pane.
  3. On the SystemEDGE page, click add to create a policy.
  4. On the New SystemEDGE Policy dialog, specify the required data to create a policy, then click
    OK
    .
  5. Open the policy that you want to apply to one or more managed systems and click Traps & Communities.
    The Communities page opens with the table of SNMP settings and the following options:
    • Include only Server Communities
    • Include Server Communities and all Default Communities
    • Custom Selection
    The configuration includes only default (global) SNMP settings that have a port that matches the agent port
  6. Select
    Custom Selection
    .
    This option lets you select global SNMPv3 objects only and clear server-specific SNMP settings.
  7. Select at least one SNMPv3 settings object with the appropriate port specified for each target system, then click
    Save Policy
    .
    The selected SNMPv3 objects are associated with the policy.
  8. Click the
    Trap Destinations
    tab.
    The Trap Destinations page opens. You can configure SNMPv3 Trap Destinations.
  9. From the Trap Type field on the Trap Destinations page, select one of the following options:
    • SNMPv3 Trap Info
    • SNMPv3 Notification Info (also referred to as INFORM requests and confirmed traps)
    Depending on the selection, the following fields are displayed:
    • Destination
      Defines the host to which to send the trap, either a host name or an IP address.
    • Port
      Defines the port number on the destination host to which to send the trap.
    • Username
      Defines the SNMPv3 user with which to send the trap.
    • Encoding
      Specifies the type of encoding to use when sending traps. This encoding is similar to configuring the trap encoding in SNMPv1.
      Default:

    • Context
      (Required) An asterisk (
      *
      ) is the only supported value for this field.
    • Timeout
      (Notifications only) Defines how long (in seconds) to wait for a confirmation of notification delivery before timing out.
    • Retries
      (Notifications only) Defines the number of times to retry sending a notification after a timeout.
  10. Complete the fields, then click
    Add
    .
    The application updates the Trap Destinations table with the new entry.
    Repeat Step 10 to add more entries to the table.
  11. Select a Trap Destination, then click
    Save Policy
    .
    The application saves the policy with the appropriate trap destination.
