Add a Test to an SRM Policy

- Click the Resources tab, open the Configure pane, expand Policies, and click Service Response.
- From the table on theAvailable Policiespage, select the policy.
- On theSummarypage for the policy, click Test, then click+ (New)on the Test Monitors toolbar.
- In theTest namefield on theNewdialog, define a unique name for the test .Limits:TheTest namemust contain 64 characters or less. Test names are case-sensitive.
- (Optional) Enter a Description for the test.
- (Optional) Define a test class.
- Select the test type from the Test Type list:
- Active DirectoryVerifies that Windows Active Directory Services are working properly to manage shared files and resources.
- CustomVerifies that important custom services or other tasks are working efficiently.
- DHCPVerifies that Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol servers are responding to address requests.
- DNSVerifies that the Domain Name System servers are processing host name to address resolution requests.
- File I/OVerifies that operations such as read, write, and compare work across file systems.
- FTP and TFTPVerifies that users can log in to specified servers to upload and download files.
- HTTP and HTTPSVerifies that users can connect to your business web servers and determines whether specific text displays on a web page.
- LDAPVerifies the connection to LDAP servers to verify access for user requests and LDAP queries.
- NISVerifies that NIS map requests are being processed.
- NNTPVerifies that users can connect to their Usenet newsgroup servers and company bulletin boards.
- PingVerifies that network devices exist and are reachable across the network.
- EmailVerifies that email servers are available and processing email effectively. SRM supports tests for IMAP, MAPI, POP3, SMTP, and round-trip email that originates from an SMTP server.
- SNMPVerifies that SNMP agents are responding to SNMPv1 GET requests.
- SQL QueryVerifies that SQL database servers are available and processing short queries.
- TCPVerifies that systems are listening for and processing connection requests.
- Virtual UserObtains continuous response time and availability data for actual user transactions (keyboard entry and mouse clicks) that can be recorded (typically with WinTask) to confirm that business tasks run successfully.
- Specify the interval (in seconds) between tests in theTest Intervalfield. The interval must be a multiple of 30 seconds. Use this option for tuning the performance of your tests.
- In theTest Timeoutfield, specify the time (in seconds) after which the test should time out. Select a number that is less than the interval but greater than the amount of time that the test requires to execute.
- Set the polling interval by selecting one of the following from the Polling Interval list:
- Normal
- Off
- Slow
- (Optional) Select theKeep Historical Datacheck box
- ClickSaveto add the test to the policy.The test is saved.
- (Optional) Repeat the process for other tests.
- ClickSave Policy.
