Perform a 14.0 or 15.0 to 15.1 Active MUF Upgrade

This scenario describes how a database administrator (DBA) performs a successful 14.0 or 15.0 to 15.1 upgrade of a single active Multi-User Facility (MUF) instance.
  • You must have completed the process of upgrading your CA Datacom Datadictionary to 15.0 before performing a 15.0 to 15.1 active MUF upgrade. See Review the Prerequisites for more information.
  • In all cases, the MUF must be running at the CA Datacom 15.1 code level before performing any part of the 15.1 active MUF upgrade process. This means that you swap the target libraries with the 15.1 libraries and execute member AXACTUPG. The DBSIDPR parameters must match 14.0 or 15.0 depending on which version you are upgrading from. Execute both AXAPFADD and AXRIM01 before bringing up the 15.1 MUF.
This scenario describes how a database administrator (DBA) performs a successful 14.0 or 15.0 to 15.1 upgrade of a single active Multi-User Facility (MUF) instance. There is no requirement to perform all upgrades simultaneously or immediately.
The term active means that the MUF is enabled and application requests are being processed against the following resources:
  • User application databases
  • CA Datacom Datadictionary (DD) and Data Definition Directory (DDD) databases
Upgrade Overview
The upgrade from CA Datacom/AD 14.0 or 15.0 to 15.1 is different from all prior version upgrades because there are only two processes involved.
With an active MUF upgrade, you do not have to perform a shutdown of your environment. Where the AD 14.0 or 15.0 MUF is active, you can modify the JCL to include the AD 15.1 libraries. If you are running a shadow MUF configuration, shut down the primary MUF (14.0 or 15.0) and bring up the backup shadow MUF (15.1). If you are not running a shadow MUF configuration, you must shut down the current MUF and start up the MUF with the 15.1 JCL.
You can also shut down your AD 14.0 or 15.0 MUF, and bring up the same MUF with the 15.1 libraries. The swap of the libraries between releases 14.0 or 15.0, then 15.1 performs the function of the upgrade.
The following CA Datacom Datadictionary database resources can be open and active in MUF when the CA Datacom Datadictionary upgrade process is performed:
  • CA Datacom Datadictionary (DD) database (default DBID 002)
  • Data Definition Directory (DDD) database (default DBID 015)
Performing an Active MUF Upgrade
As a database administrator (DBA), you can install, maintain, deploy, configure, and customize features for the database product. The following information describes the benefits and the process of upgrading one 14.0 or 15.0 candidate MUF environment to 15.1.
Benefits
  • The candidate MUF remains fully operational and available while the target libraries are upgraded to 15.1
  • User applications can run at the 14.0 or 15.0 code level depending on which version you are upgrading from, while the MUF is running at the 15.1 code level
  • When upgrading from 14.0, the DD and DDD system resource upgrade takes a few minutes to complete. However, you can postpone this process until you are certain that you are staying on release 15.1.
When upgrading from 15.0, the DD and DDD system resource upgrades must be completed before upgrading to 15.1.
Follow these steps to perform an upgrade:
