Routine Parameters

A routine parameter is a parameter of an SQL routine. You use routine parameters to perform the following:

  • Pass values to and from the SQL routine
  • Store and retrieve values as needed by the routine logic
  • Pass values to other SQL-invoked routines
Routine parameters can only be referenced within the body of the SQL routine in which they are defined.
Defining Routine Parameters
A routine parameter is defined through a
parameter-definition
clause of the CREATE PROCEDURE or CREATE FUNCTION statements. The definition includes the specification of the name, the data type and optional WITH DEFAULT attribute.
