Automatic UID/GID Assignment Options (AUTOIDOM)

The AUTOIDOM record defines options for the automatic assignment of UID and GID values for PROFILE(USER),DIV(OMVS) and PROFILE(GROUP),DIV(OMVS) records. The AUTOIDOM record is never propagated to other nodes in a Command Propagation Facility (CPF) environment.

Automatic UID and GID value assignment does not guarantee that the assigned value is unique when passed to another networked node by the CPF. The UIDNEXT or GIDNEXT field value is used for the automatic assignment on the local node. The value is interrogated and incremented until a unique value is found on that node. The selected value is passed to all other networked nodes using CPF and is not checked for uniqueness on the target node. If uniqueness is desired across all networked nodes:
  • Use the SHOW OMVS command to determine a starting and ending value range that is not in use on all networked nodes.
  • Set the AUTOIDOM record appropriately on all nodes on which administration is performed.
In a shared CA ACF2 database environment, the AUTOIDOM record must be shared (Masked SYSID for GSO AUTOIDOM) in order to ensure unique UID auto assignment.
The following lists the record format and field descriptions for AUTOIDOM:

  • ASSIGNU
    |NOASSIGNU
    Indicates that the UID can be auto-assigned when the AUTOUID keyword is specified when inserting or changing an OMVS User Profile data record.
    If NOASSIGNU is specified, the AUTOUID keyword is considered an error. For more information about AUTOUID, see User Profile Records.
    Default:
    ASSIGNU
  • ASSIGNG
    |NOASSIGNG
    Indicates that the GID can be auto-assigned when the AUTOGID keyword is specified when inserting or changing an OMVS Group Profile data record.
    If NOASSIGNG is specified, the AUTOGID keyword is considered an error. Logonids must have GROUP specified in order to have GID automatically assigned. For more information on AUTOGID, see Group Profile Records.
    Default:
    ASSIGNG
  • UIDSTART(
    nnn
    )
    Start of UID value range for auto-assignment. A number from 1 through 2,147,483,647 is valid.
    Default:
    1
  • UIDEND(
    nnn
    )
    End of UID value range for auto-assignment. A number from 1 through 2,147,483,647 is valid. UIDSTART must be larger than UIDEND.
    Default:
    2,147,483,647
  • UIDNEXT(
    nnn
    )
    Next available UID value, or -1 when all values have been used. This field is maintained internally by CA ACF2 and cannot be modified by the user directly. When UIDNEXT has been set to -1, change the AUTOIDOM record specifying new UIDSTART and UIDEND values. This field resets the UIDNEXT value to equal the new UIDSTART value.
  • GIDSTART(
    nnn
    )
    Start of GID value range for auto-assignment. A number from 1 through 2,147,483,647 is valid.
    Default:
    1
  • GIDEND(
    nnn
    )
    End of GID value range for auto-assignment. A number from 1 through 2,147,483,647 is valid. GIDSTART must be larger than GIDEND.
    Default:
    2,147483,647
  • GIDNEXT(
    nnn
    )
    Next available GID value, or -1 when all values have been used. This field is maintained internally by CA ACF2 and cannot be modified by the user directly. When GIDNEXT has been set to -1, change the AUTOIDOM record specifying new GIDSTART and GIDEND values. This field resets the GIDNEXT value to equal the new GIDSTART value.
