Tivoli NetView Hardware Monitor/NPDA

Tivoli NetView Hardware Monitor, formerly known as the Network Problem Determination Application (NPDA) product, provides you with diagnostic and reliability data, including component error statistics and traffic volumes.
rm
Its online functions are designed to assist network operations in resolving problems quickly.
The NetView Hardware Monitor also produces the NetView reports record, which can be directed to SMF as the type 37 subtype 3 record. The
MICS Network Analyzer
processes this SMF record to add diagnostic and reliability data to the
MICS database
.
Data Types
The information recorded by the NetView Hardware Monitor consists of the following:
  • Statistics--records of communications traffic and temporary (recoverable) errors
  • Events (generic and standard)--either specific errors reported by communications devices or statistics that exceeded the installation-defined threshold for the error-to-traffic ratio
  • Alerts--events that qualify for alert status as a result of the analysis by a user-defined Alert recording filter
The installation controls what qualify as events and alerts, and must define these qualifications so that critical information is recorded. The installation also controls the number of NetView Hardware Monitor/NPDA reports records that are produced through the recording filters.
