CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows
Using Ansible
You can now install, configure, and upgrade
CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows
using Ansible software. Ansible is an open source tool, provides a modern approach for software management tasks. Ansible software significantly simplifies the frequently performed software management functions. The sample Ansible playbooks are provided to help you automate
CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows
installation and configuration tasks. You can also enhance the provided sample playbooks and create your own playbooks to automate the software management tasks. For more information, see Install Using Ansible.
Support for Open Java
XCOM supports Open Java version 1.8 (64-Bit) besides Oracle Java. XCOM no longer distributes Oracle Java with installation and customers need to have any of the Java 1.8 (64-Bit) versions already installed and set in PATH prior to XCOM installation. The installation process allows the user to choose Java to be used with the product if multiple copies of Java are found on the system. In this way, XCOM shares Java with other applications and reduces the installation footprint.
Performance Improvements
A new PACK buffer option ZPACK  is added to increase the performance of transfers. It allows the user to configure MAXPACK and internal work buffers to higher values. MAXPACK buffer increased from 31K to 63K. The transfer will negotiate the lower MAXPACK value with its partner before the beginning of the transfer to determine the best possible value for the transfer.
Installation Improvements
Installer enhanced to check for any unsupported older version of XCOM is already installed on the system or any of the registry entries left from previous installation which can cause problems for the new installation. If any such registry entries are found that need to be cleaned up, Installer prompts user whether to clean up the previous XCOM registry entries and proceed with new Installation.
New Operating System Support
CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows is now certified and supported on Windows Server 2019 Operating System.
Miscellaneous
  • Uninstallation directory name has been changed to Uninstaller_R116SP03.
  • Adhered to secure coding practices to eliminate potential vulnerabilities.
Support Deprecated for CA XCOM Data Transport Gateway Release 11.6
The support for CA XCOM Data Transport Gateway Release 11.6 is deprecated. The current release supports CA XCOM Data Transport Gateway Release 12.0.

Efficient Installation and Upgrade
  • Service pack 11.6.02 supports upgrade from Service Pack 11.6.01 and Release 11.6.
  • Enhanced upgrade options.
    1. If TRUST_DATABASE_TYPE= MySQL/DB2, consent for preserving the trusted database's driver jars. ( both in GUI and Silent modes):
      • For MySQL, the JDBC Driver Path for the MySQL connector jar files
      • For DB2, the JDBC Driver Path and JDBC Driver License for the DB2 JDBC connector jar files
      The installer copies the selected JDBC driver jars to %XCOM_HOME%\lib post-installation.
    2. Provide consent for upgrading History DB schema ( both in GUI and Silent modes)
Miscellaneous
  • CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows Service Pack Service Pack 11.6.02 no longer uses CA ALP License.
  • Uninstallation directory name has been changed to Uninstaller_R116SP02.
Passphrase Support
The maximum length of the password fields PASSWORD, LPASSWORD, and FILE_ACCESS_PASSWORD is increased up to 100 characters. Means the new range of password characters is 0-100 to support passphrase input. Use of passphrase increases system security by providing a bigger number of possible character combinations compared to using a standard password. The passphrase must conform to your site security standards.
Apply PTF SO05626 for passphrase support.
  • PASSWORD:
    The higher input length for password has been increased from 31 to 100.
  • FILE_ACCESS_PASSWORD:
    The higher input length for file access has been increased from 14 to 100.
  • LPASSWORD:
    The higher input length for meta-transfers has been increased from 31 to 100.
  • Trusted Transfers:
    The input length for the password field has been increased to 100 characters.
For transfers to z/OS the same fields work. Please see z/OS documentation for passphrase support on z/OS.
Oracle Database Support
The database support has been extended to Oracle Database. Now you can configure Oracle Database for managing your history records and performing trusted transfers. Apply PTF SO05626 for passphrase support.

CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows
Service Pack 11.6.01 provides the following enhancements. These enhancements are

the new features of Release 11.6, which are introduced in Release Notes.
Simplified Installation and Upgrade
The installation and upgrade process is simplified for
CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows
11.6 SP1, as follows:
Install and Upgrade More Efficiently
The installation and upgrade process is more efficient. The same program lets you either install
CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows
for the first time or upgrade it from Release 11.6 to Service Pack 11.6.01.
The new installer runs faster than the previous ones in both GUI and silent modes.
After the installation completes, the system
does not
require a restart.
The Uninstall program removes the Application, Windows service, and Registry settings for the product. You can run the Uninstall program directly, or you can run it from the Windows Add/Remove Program panel.
Enhanced Silent Installation
You no longer need to use the installer to generate a response file before you run a silent installation. Instead, you can now create and customize your response file and use it to perform the installation.
Improved Troubleshooting
The installer creates these log files:

Reduced Installer Footprint
CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows
binary files that are not related to the service pack have been removed from the Installer, reducing its size.

Other installation-related changes follow:
Custom Installation
The custom installation includes a new SNA configuration option and a new panel that lets you set up the Transaction Program.
The API, GUI, and SNA binary files are now deployed by default.
Installer Return Codes
Installer return codes are documented. This information helps you verify the installation status when you run silent mode from your script or other automation programs.
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) location
The new installer deploys JRE under %XCOM_HOME%. During an uninstallation, this folder is removed.
Modify and Repair Options Removed
The installer no longer includes options to Modify or Repair the installation.
TLS v1.1 and TLS v1.2 Support
This release adds support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) v1.1 and v1.2. Based on the security requirements, you can enable these protocols for Secure Socket transfers. The following TLS/SSL methods are supported in configssl.cnf: TLS/SSL methods are supported in configssl.cnf:

  • Supports TLSv1.2, TLSv1.1, TLSv1.0 and SSLv3 protocols
  • Maintains backward compatibility

The default TLS/SSL methods are set to ALL. As a result, the
CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows
transfer selects the newest protocol supported by the partner CA XCOM.
In the following example, the transfer runs over TLSv1.2. If the partner does not support TLSv1.2, then the implementation falls back to the next best version that the partner supports.

When a TLS or SSL connection is established, the client and server negotiate a cipher suite, exchanging cipher suite codes in the client hello and server hello messages. The cipher suite specifies a combination of cryptographic algorithms to be used for the connection. For more details, see Cipher Suites for r11.6 SP01/ SP02.

XCOM API and XCOM QAPI
You can optionally use the XCOM API and XCOM QAPI to write custom applications. If you do so, recompile them with the Visual Studio 2013 compiler before you use them.

The support for CA XCOM Data Transport Gateway Release 11.5 is deprecated. The current release supports CA XCOM Data Transport Gateway Release 11.6 and Release 12.0.
Support Deprecated for Some Options of NOTIFYL and NOTIFYR Flags
Release 11.6 onward, due to changes in the Windows operating systems that
CA XCOM Data Transport
supports, support was removed for some options of the NOTIFYL and NOTIFYR flags. For details, see NOTIFYL and NOTIFYR.
