Configure SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval
Use these steps to configure the SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval to download and receive maintenance.
SMP/E Internet Service Retrievallets you submit requests for PTFs and HOLDDATA to a remote Broadcom server. When those requests are fulfilled, the packages are automatically downloaded to your system. You can then apply and accept maintenance according to your site strategy. The
CARSsaves you time by eliminating manual downloads, by eliminating time-consuming fix searches, and by facilitating easier installation of Recommended and Preventive service.
SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval, IBM PTF UO01835 (SMP/E level 36.85) is the minimum required level.
You use the RECEIVE ORDER command to submit a
SMP/E Internet Service Retrievalrequest to the Broadcom Automated Order Server. SMP/E uses the Hypertext Transfer Protocol and Secure Sockets Layer (HTTPS) to communicate with the server and HTTPS to download the packages. To support the HTTPS communication infrastructure, SMP/E uses Java™ and X.509 certificates to identify you to the server and perform SSL authentication.
To use Java 8.0 and X.509 certificates, you must perform several one-time configuration steps before you can use the SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER command.
This article provides an overview of using X.509 certificates to establish identity and authenticity for client/server communications. This article also defines the steps to complete the following tasks:
- Import a user certificate.
- Install the user certificate, usingACF2,Top Secret, or IBM RACF®.
- Define the ORDERSERVER input for the RECEIVE ORDER command.
- Define the CLIENT input for the RECEIVE ORDER command, including information necessary to allow SMP/E to use Java 8.0.
Most Broadcom mainframe products support this feature. For a list of products that do not support this feature, see Appendix: Unsupported Products.
