Creating and assigning tier tags to virtual machine
You must perform this step only if you have

configured.Before you create and assign tier tags, you may want to understand the significance of tier tags. About tier tags
Operations Director
is unable to derive tier tags when the regular expressions configured in the od.properties
file do not match the virtual machine names. In such a scenario, you may have to manually create and assign tier tags to the virtual machines.Tier tags can be applied to a stand-alone virtual machine and virtual machines that are part of a vApp. Tier tags cannot be applied to a vApp.
- To create and assign tags to virtual machines
- Log in to the vSphere Web client.
- On the home page, selectvCenter.
- UnderInventory Lists, selectVirtual Machines.The list of virtual machines is displayed.
- Select the virtual machine that you want to assign tags to in the left panel.
- In the right panel, go toManage > Tagsportlet.
- In the top-left, click theNew Tagicon and create the tags WEB, APP, and DB and assign the category asTier.The new tags that you create and save are listed in theAssign Tagportlet.
- Now click theAssign Tagsicon in the top left.
- Select the desired tag and clickAssignto assign it to the virtual machine.
