Performing Tasks in Preboot Environment for Windows Computers
After the client computers boot to the Windows preboot environment (WinPE), you can perform the following:
- Configure an unknown computer as predefined computer through thePredefined Computer Options
- Execute tasks and jobs on the unknown computers from theInitial Deploymentjob
- Execute tasks and jobs on the predefined computers from theRe-deployment (Managed Computer)option of theInitial Deploymentjob
- Execute tasks and jobs on the managed computers from theRe-deployment (Managed Computer)option of theInitial Deploymentjob
To configure unknown computers as predefined computers
- After a Windows unknown computer boots in the preboot environment, thePredefined Computer Optionsdialog box is displayed.Unknown computers boot to this option only if you have configured thePredefined Computersettings through the console and the hardware identifier values are null. The hardware identifiers are MAC address, Serial number, and UUID.
- In thePredefined Computer Optionsdialog box, select the predefined computer name that you want to assign to the unknown computer, and clickOK.If you clickCancel, then theInitial Deployment Settingsjob menu that you configured for the unknown computer, is displayed.
- In thePredefined Computer Confirmationdialog box clickContinueif you want to configure the unknown computer as a predefined computer.ClickInitial Deploymentif you do not want to configure the unknown computer as predefined computer. In such case, the initial deployment tasks that you configured for an unknown computer are executed on the client computer.
To select Initial deployment job for unknown Windows computers
- After an unknown client computer boots to the preboot environment, theInitial Deploymentjob menu is displayed.This menu is displayed only if you have set tasks or jobs forInitial Deployment (Unknown Computer) menuin theInitial Deploymentjob menu dialog box.
- In theInitial Deploymentmenu, select the jobs or tasks that you want to execute on the unknown client computer.
- Check the status of the tasks or jobs in the console that execute on the client computer.Ensure that the client computer boots in the production to continue with deployment-related tasks.
- To select Initial deployment job for predefined or managed Windows computers
- After a predefined or managed client computer boots to the preboot environment, theInitial Deploymentjob menu is displayed.This menu is displayed only if you have set tasks or jobs forRe-deployment (Managed Computer) menuin theInitial Deploymentjob menu dialog box.
- In theInitial Deploymentmenu, select the jobs or tasks that you want to execute on the client computer.
- Check the status of the tasks or jobs in the console that execute on the client computer.Ensure that the client computer boots in the production to continue with deployment-related tasks.
