Add or Edit Package
Dialog BoxThis dialog box lets you add a package to a software resource or edit an existing package. It also lets you configure the package server settings.
You can also using this dialog box to assign packages to package servers automatically.
This dialog box contains the following tabs:
Details | Lets you identify the package, specify its primary source, and define the contents of the package including the installation file. |
Package Server | Lets you configure the package server settings for the current package. Package servers let you reduce the load on the server and the network by distributing packages to multiple locations from which they can be downloaded. |
Option | Description |

Name | Identifies this package in any list of packages. Make the name descriptive enough for others to easily identify this package. Change this name if it does not follow your organization’s standards for names. We recommend that you use the package’s installation file name. |
Description | Lets you type a description to further identify this package and make it more recognizable. Do not include critical information in the description because it is not intended to appear in all the lists that contain the name. |
Package source | Defines the source from which the package is managed. For example, the package is distributed to package servers from the source that you define. Before you change an existing package’s source to any place other than the Software Library, move the package file or files to the new location. The package is not moved to the new source automatically. Options for sourcing the package are as follows:

Package location | Lets you specify the current location of the package. This location becomes the source path for this package. The package’s source determines what you need to enter as follows:

Package directory | Lets you specify the UNC directory that contains the package file. This option appears only when you source the package from a UNC. |
URL | Lets you specify the URL path to the package file. This option appears only when you source the package from a URL. |
Package Content | Lets you specify one or more files or folders that define the package. The package’s source determines the option that appears. The options are as follows:

Create folder | Lets you create subfolders in the package target location. |
Set Installation File | Lets you select the specific file that installs the software resource. The file that you specify as the installation file appears in bold type. For supported file types, the installation file is used to generate the software details and the command lines. |
Delete symbol | Lets you delete any files or folders that should not be included in the package. For example, a folder that you selected might contain some files that are not needed. Delete the unneeded files from the package to save bandwidth and time during package downloads. |
Search | Lets you find a file by pattern among the files in the package contents. |
Automatically generate command lines when package is created. | Lets you generate appropriate command lines when a new package is added to either a new software resource or an existing software resource. Note that this option only appears when you add a new package, and not when you edit an existing package. |
Option | Description |

Use custom package destination location on package servers | Lets you download the package to a custom directory on the package servers instead of the default directory. The default location is as follows: installation_path \Altiris\Altiris Agent\Package Delivery\package_GUID \cacheNote that this option is disabled by default. |
Assign package to | Lets you assign the package to any of the following package servers:
The package servers are set up in Notification Server. |
Filter | Lets you narrow the list of package servers or sites that appear in the list. |
