Description
Detection rule
Lets you select a rule that determines whether a specific instance of a software application is installed on a client computer. The detection is part of many software-related actions that can be performed. For example, software delivery, software inventory, or patch installation can perform a detection check.
When you import a software package to create a software resource, the import process creates a detection rule that checks if a specific software is installed on a computer.
Detection rules are not created when other types of packages are imported.
Applicability rule
Lets you select a rule that determines whether a client computer has the correct environment for an installation of the software.
For example, before a software delivery policy installs a software resource that requires Windows Vista, it checks the client computer. If the client computer contains a different operating system, the software is not installed.
