About managing your scanners servers

Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) console can simplify the management of one or more Symantec Protection Engine scanners across your organization. You can create the scanner sever groups that have a common purpose and, therefore, require the same policy configurations. By grouping scanners, you can apply a common set of protection settings once, rather than repeatedly to each scanner. The reduction in configuration time and maintenance costs can be considerable in a large network with multiple servers that perform similar roles.
Symantec Protection Engine  primarily consists of two components, server and console. With the SPE console, you can manage your Symantec Protection Engine server(s) from a single computer. You need to add servers in this console to manage it through the console.  When you open this console, the console communicates with all the added servers and displays their status on the dashboard. As per your requirement you can create the various server groups that serve a similar purpose. You can also deploy settings to all your managed servers in the group from the console. By grouping servers, you can apply a set of policy settings once, rather than repeatedly to each server.
Global Group
The Global Group consists of all of the servers that you manage through the Symantec Protection Engine console.  The changes are propagated to all servers in all groups when you configure and apply Global Group settings. Changes that are made at the Global Group level overwrite all individual server and user-defined server group settings.
Symantec Protection Engine provides the following Global Groups:
  • Global Group - Windows
All Windows scanners must be added under the Global group. No other server, other than Windows is supported under this group.
  • Global Group - Linux
All Linux scanners must be added under the Global group. No other scanner, other than Linux is supported under this group.
User-defined server subgroup(s)
A user-defined server subgroup is a grouping of scanner servers that have common roles and therefore, require similar configurations. You can create a user-defined scanner server group and configure settings for the group to simplify server management.
For example, a server group can be the scanner servers that are used by department such as marketing or the physical location of servers such as third floor of Building A.
