Self-service tasks are tasks that users can use to manage their own profiles. These tasks are divided into two types:

- Public tasks: Tasks that users can access without providing login credentials. Examples of public tasks are self-registration, forgotten password, and forgotten user ID tasks.
- Protected tasks: Tasks for which users provide valid credentials. Examples include tasks for changing passwords, profile information,or group membership. To gain access to these tasks, users must be given a role, such as the Self Manager role. To grant group membership, the group must be either a self-subscribing group, or the user is the administrator of the group.
