Configuring System settings (synchronization clusters)
Review information for using Synchronization Clusters to configure LDAP Directory Synchronization Service on multiple VIP Enterprise Gateway servers.
The LDAP Directory Synchronization Service adds, updates, or deletes users and administrators in the VIP Authentication Service based on the membership of the user record in the enterprise user store. In a simple LDAP Directory Synchronization configuration, all user stores are configured with a single VIP Enterprise Gateway server. In such a configuration, the LDAP Directory Synchronization Service can access all the user records and synchronize them to the VIP Authentication Service. The LDAP Directory Synchronization Service synchronizes user data to the VIP Authentication Service once a day. This synchronization usually occurs when the load on the VIP Enterprise Gateway server is not high.
However, Symantec has identified other use cases involving complex enterprise-level LDAP configurations. Use Synchronization Clusters to configure LDAP Directory Synchronization Service on multiple VIP Enterprise Gateway servers to address these complex use cases. Refer to
Symantec VIP Enterprise Gateway Installation and Configuration Guide
, online at the Broadcom TechDocs portal, to learn more about LDAP Directory Synchronization using the Synchronization Cluster.Symantec recommends you to use these configurations only for the LDAP configurations listed in this topic.
To facilitate complex enterprise-level LDAP configurations, you can configure a synchronization cluster name. A synchronization cluster name helps VIP Enterprise Gateway servers identify the user records that are synchronized with the VIP Authentication Service using the LDAP Directory Synchronization Service and the Self Service Portal IdP. Set the name of your synchronization cluster from the
Settings > System Settings
page. By default, this field displays VIP_EG
as the synchronization cluster name. You can add a new synchronization cluster name or you can edit an existing one.
