Creating a new asset type

lets you create a custom asset type that you can use for importing assets. The creation of a new asset type involves the following steps:
- Choose your own platform and the primary entity to create the asset type.
- Specify the fields that should be included in the newly created asset type.You can specify the fields for the referenced entity also.
- Mark the fields as mandatory or optional.
- Add a new field that has no reference to the entity schema.
- Add asset name fields.
- Close the Control Compliance Suite Console, Restart the Symantec Application Server Service, and re-launch the Console.
Before creating a new asset type you must know that an asset type once created or a field once added to the asset type cannot be deprecated.
- To create a new asset type
- Hover over theAdminmenu, and clickAsset Schema Manager.
- Click theAdd new asset typelink.
- On theSpecify Asset Type Detailsscreen of theCreate New Asset Typewizard, do the following:
- In theNamefield, type the name of the asset type that you want to create.The asset type name should not include spaces and should not exceed ten characters.
- In theDisplay nameandDescriptionfields, type the display name and the description for the asset type, and then clickNext.
- On theSelect Platform and Primary Entityscreen, do the following:
- In thePlatformdrop-down list, select a platform for which you want to create an asset type.The list of platforms includes the predefined platforms and any custom platform that you have already created.
- In thePrimary entitydrop-down list, select a primary entity for the selected platform, and then clickNext.
- On theSpecify Fieldsscreen, select the fields in theAvailable fieldslist.
- Click the Add icon to add the selected fields to theSelected fieldslistBy default, the primary fields for the primary entity are listed in the Available fields list.
- Select theInclude referenced entitiescheck box, if you want to add the fields for the referenced entities, and then clickNext.If you select this option, the referenced entities appear in the Entity drop-down list. You can then select a referenced entity and add the fields for the referenced entities.
- On theCustomize Field Attributesscreen, you can mark the fields as primary, mandatory or optional and then clickNext.You mark the fields as mandatory or optional that are not primary fields. You can also specify if the field is a part of the asset import and if the field is editable.
- On theAdd External Fieldsscreen, clickAddto add an external field.
- On theSpecify Asset Name Fieldsscreen, select the fields from theAvailable fieldslist. Use the Add icon to add to add the fields to theSelected fieldslist.ClickNext.You can use the separators to add multiple asset name fields and to specify the relation among the multiple fields.
- On the Summary screen, review the selections that you made for the custom asset type and clickFinish.
- Restart the Symantec Application Server service and relaunch the Console.
