About Metrics
Metrics are displayed in dashboards and scorecards. Dashboards provide custom metric information for specific users and groups. Scorecards are collections of risk metrics that are customized to align key values and business goals. There are several out-of-the-box metrics that can be leveraged after
Symantec ICA
installation. Metrics are individual building blocks in
Symantec ICA
that contain relevant information about specific security data that a user wants to monitor in their environment. The metrics represent the alignment of key values or intersections of security data points with the intent of monitoring specific business goals. Typically, metrics are defined by the security administrators. See also: About Scorecard Groups for information about creating a scorecard section or group
Creating an Analyzer-based Metric

- Review the settings, and then clickSave. The metric is available as an analyzer view, and on the scorecard.
Creating a SQL-based Metric Using the Metric Wizard
SQL-based metric queries must include a value, and should include a country identifier and organization identifier. The query cannot run a stored procedure, or use common table expressions. All derived columns must include a name. To create a SQL-based metric using the Metric Wizard, do the following:
- Ensure the following information is available:
- Name of the SQL Server instance hosting Analysis Services
- Name of the Analysis Services database
- Query includes a value column
- In theSymantec ICAAdministration section, selectDashboards, and then selectScorecards.
- Expand the scorecard that has the scorecard section.
- Right-click the scorecard section that will have the new metric, and then clickAdd SQL Metric.
- Enter the connection, and the query, and then clickValidate Query. The query must return a value.
- ClickNext.
- Enter the detail information in the following fields:SQL Detail Configuration FieldsDetail FieldDescriptionDecimal PlacesSets the number of decimal places to display for the metric. This field is available for percentage and ratio metrics.Denominator Metric KeySets the metric for the denominator. This field is available for percentage and ratio metrics.DescriptionProvides the text description for the metric. This description appears on scorecards that use the metric.Detail Query TypeSets the type of query. Options are MDX and SQL.Display NameSets the name of the metric to display inSymantec ICAsection.Metric TypeSpecifies the type of metric. Options are as follows:
- Regular
- Percentage from two other metrics
- Ratio from two other metrics
Numerator Metric KeySets the metric for the numerator. This field is available for percentage and ratio metrics.Score WeightSets the value that controls the order of the metric as listed in the News section of the Analysis homepage. The higher the number, the higher the metric displays in the list.Status ThresholdSets the threshold for the metric status.Total Metric CountSets the value that controls what is displayed in the Details table of the metric view (Details View only). Options are as follows:- Metric value
- Detail query result count
Trend DirectionSets how the trend direction indicates improvement, such as descending value indicates improvement. - ClickNext, and review the settings.
- If the settings are correct, then clickSave. If settings are incorrect, then clickPreviousto correct the settings, and then clickSave.
Creating a Manual Input Metric
Manual input metrics are static values that can be used with other m etrics. To create a manual input metric, do the following:
- Ensure the following information is available:
- Name of the SQL Server instance hosting Analysis Services.
- Name of the Analysis Services database.
- In theSymantec ICAAdministration section, selectDashboards, and then selectScorecards.
- Expand the scorecard that has the scorecard section.
- Right-click the scorecard section that will have the new metric, and then clickAdd Manual Input Metric.
- Enter the detail information in the following fields:Manual Input Metric Detail Configuration FieldsDetail FieldDescriptionDecimal PlacesSets the number of decimal places to display for the metric. This field is available for percentage and ratio metrics.Denominator Metric KeySets the metric for the denominator. This field is available for percentage and ratio metrics.DescriptionProvides the text description for the metric.
