Dashboard Examples

The dashboard wizard helps you create dashboards for your organization. The dashboard area in the wizard is like a canvas that you add widgets to create your dashboard. All dashboards have at least one layout widget to set the main orientation for the dashboard. Additional layout widgets are then added to the dashboard area.
The following examples explain how to use the layout widgets to create dashboards that have more than one widget, and more than one type of widget.

Example: Dashboard with Description Widget and Three Widgets Below

In this example, the dashboard has a description widget at the top, and three widgets side-by-side below the description. The three widgets are a bar chart, rank view, and saved data-in-motion (DIM) search list. To create a dashboard similar to this one, do the following:
  1. Open the dashboard wizard, and add a dashboard.
  2. Enter a name for the dashboard, select
    Custom Dashboard
    , and then click
    Launch Editor
    .
  3. Drag the VBOX (vertical layout) to the dashboard area.
  4. Drag the Description widget to the dashboard area.
  5. Drag the HBOX (horizontal layout) widget to the dashboard area, and place it below the description widget. The HBOX widget will contain the three side-by-side widgets.
  6. Select the Bar Chart widget and place it in the Horizontal Layout area.
  7. Select the Rank View widget, and place it to the right of the Bar Chart widget.
  8. Select the Saved Search widget, and place it to the right of the Rank View widget.
  9. Configure the four widgets as you would like them.
  10. Save the dashboard.

Example: Dashboard with Several Nested Layouts

In this example, the dashboard has three sections across the top, and a set of metrics below the three sections. In the top leftmost section is a pie chart. The middle section has a saved search. The rightmost section has top risks, with a rank view below it.
To create a dashboard similar to this one, do the following:
  1. Open the dashboard wizard, and add a dashboard.
  2. Enter a name for the dashboard, select
    Custom Dashboard
    , and then click
    Launch Editor
    .
  3. Drag a HBOX (horizontal layout) widget to the dashboard area.
  4. Drag a VBOX (vertical layout) to the dashboard area, and put it in the HBOX widget. The VBOX widget will contain the three sections at the top of the dashboard, and the set of metrics.
  5. Drag a HBOX widget, and put it in the VBOX widget. This widget will hold the three sections at the top of the dashboard.
  6. Drag the Tile widget, and put it under the nested HBOX widget. The VBOX widget should contain one HBOX widget and one Tile widget.
  7. Drag a VBOX widget, and put it in the nested HBOX widget.
  8. Drag a Risk Model Rank View widget, and put it in the nested VBOX widget.
  9. Drag an Entity Rank View widget, and put it below the Risk Model Rank View widget.
  10. Drag a Saved Search widget, and put it to the left of the nested VBOX widget.
  11. Drag a Pie Chart widget, and put it to the left of the Saved Search widget. The dashboard area should look like the following:
  12. Configure the widgets as you would like them.
  13. (Optional) Set the height of the dashboard, such as 900, and save it to see how it looks in a browser. If more space is preferred, then increase the height. If less is preferred, then decrease the height or leave the field blank.
  14. Save the dashboard.

Example: Dashboard with Drill-down Analyzer Widget

In this example, the dashboard uses an analyzer view to present DIM incident data in a pie chart that can drill down to a details page. Before creating the dashboard, the analyzer view and chart must be created using the
Symantec ICA
analyzer.
To create a dashboard similar to this one, do the following:
  1. Create a view in the
    Symantec ICA
analyzer that has the following attributes:
    • Measure: DIM Incident Count
    • Rows: DIM Incident Protocol, and DIM Incident Severity
  2. Right-click the total cell, and select
    Pie Chart
    .
  3. Right-click the total cell again, and select
