About managing and unmanaging topology objects

The
IP Manager
monitors managed objects but not unmanaged objects. The
IP Manager
uses ICMP and SNMP, unless a different access mode is specified, to monitor a managed object for the purpose of determining the object’s status and connectivity. An unmanaged object is not polled or rediscovered by the
IP Manager
, but remains present in the modeled topology.
A managed object is an object whose IsManaged attribute has a value of TRUE. IsManaged is a Boolean attribute: TRUE when an object is managed, and FALSE when an object is unmanaged.
The
Manage
and
Unmanage
commands enable you to control whether an object is managed. Unmanaging a system might be useful when, for example, a switch or a card is taken offline for maintenance.
