architectureThe
VMware Smart Assurance Server Manager
is a fundamental part of all VMware Smart Assurance
deployments. As shown in Smarts Service Assurance Manager
deployment architecture, it consists of the following components and
relationships: - TheGlobal Manager(Service Assurance Manager) is a manager of managers that provides end-to-end views of the status of your managed IT environment. TheGlobal Managerconsolidates and abstracts topology, analysis, and events from various sources, includingVMware Smart AssuranceDomain Managers such asIP Availability ManagerandIP Performance Manager. In addition, theGlobal Managerserves as an integration point for theVMware Smart Assuranceproducts.
- TheVMware Smart AssuranceBusiness Impact Managerallows you to create and relate business-level objects, such as departments, services, and customers, to applications and network infrastructure. TheBusiness Impact Managercan then determine the business impact of infrastructure failures on business services and their users. TheBusiness Impact Manageris installed as part of theGlobal Manager. TheBusiness Impact Managerhas undergone an architectural change, that is, the analysis has been separated into separate processes.
- TheVMware Smart AssuranceGlobal Console is a user interface that provides information aboutVMware Smart Assuranceanalysis: root-cause failures, notifications, topology, and even business views. TheGlobal Consolealso provides configuration and administration controls. This functionality can also be provided to a web browser by using a Java applet as theVMware Smart AssuranceWeb Console. Both the Web Console andGlobal Consoleconnect directly to theGlobal Manager.TheGlobal Console, Web Console andBusiness Dashboardare installed from a separate CD.

Each component ofVMware Smart Assurancedata is referred to as a Dashboard viewlet, which connects directly to theGlobal Manager.
- VMware Smart AssuranceAdapters (SAM Adapters), (Adapter Platform) and () provideVMware Smart Assurancesoftware with additional sources of data when monitoring a network. TheAdapter Platformnormalizes and consolidates data from adapters before it is passed to the Service Assurance Manager. This guide covers deployment of theAdapter Platformand specifically describes two adapters that send data to theAdapter Platform: theVMware Smart AssuranceSNMP Trap Adapterand theVMware Smart AssuranceSyslog Adapter. The provides deployment information, configuration instructions, and client tool examples on the .
- () supplements existing functionality in SAM,VMware Smart AssuranceNetwork Configuration Manager (NCM) and Watch4net Automated Performance Grapher (APG). The is a VMware®-based appliance, that is, a virtual machine. In a solution, one is deployed for one presentation SAM server. The provides detailed information about installing and configuring the .Products such as theIP Managerand the includeDomain Managers that discover or monitor objects for a particular domain.TheDomain Managers use Codebook Correlation Technology™ to perform root-cause analysis for the related domain. These domains forward topology and events to theGlobal Manager, which in turn provides this information in a consolidated and abstracted manner to theGlobal Console.Design and deployment of the underlyingDomain Managers is not covered in this guide. Individual product deployment guides provide information on deploying underlying Domain Managers.deployment architecture
